Jeremiah 1:1-10: Before I Formed You

Passage: Jeremiah 1:1-10

The news broke at 9:10am, Central Standard Time, on June 24, 2022. In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a case dating back to 1973, when the court at that time nullified the laws that restricted or prohibited abortion in all fifty states. Within hours, existing pro life laws in states such as Missouri, South Dakota, and Kentucky took effect, protecting the unborn child from being aborted in most cases.

On this Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, Christians reflect upon the reality that while government is marked by lower case authority, God is distinguished as possessing upper case authority. Jeremiah 1:1-10 equips us to understand these matters. In this passage, it becomes clear that God is the creator of life (the parents are the means), and possesses authority over life. As we pause to reflect upon what has transpired over the last fifty years since Roe v. Wade, and what took place on June 24, 2022, let’s give glory to God, and continue to seek the protection of the unborn child. State laws will become the new battlegrounds in relation to abortion.

As We Relate God’s Word To Our Lives, Seek To...

• Understand The Political Tensions Of Our Time. (1-3)

• Recognize The Distinctive Work Of Our Creator. (4-5)

• Trust The Sovereign Authority Of Our LORD. (6-10)
