Psalm 103: Beyond East and West

November 13, 2022 | Dr. Gary Hylander
Passage: Psalms 103:1-22

As we explore Psalm 103 together, notice how this psalm begins and ends with the words Bless the LORD, O my soul. David is not so much talking to God, but rather, he is talking to his soul with full awareness of the LORD. He is counseling his soul, presenting the challenge to bless the LORD. The word bless (bārak) is a reference to offer praise and thanksgiving to the LORD for who he is, and for all that he has done.

Clearly, David does not want to take God for granted. He would remind us to catalog both hidden and visible blessings, both blessings from past days and recent experiences. God’s people need to develop and strengthen our memories pertaining to God’s words and works. The mature Christian will bless the LORD, even when we are not feeling blessed in our current circumstances. Together, let’s bless his holy name, and not forget all his benefits (103:2).

As We Consider How To Bless The LORD, Note...

• The Personal Challenge Being Issued. (1-5)

• The Steadfast Love Being Described. (6-19)

• The Cosmic Appeal Being Delivered. (20-22)
