The Bonds of Motherhood

Passage: Luke 1:39-56

The story of Mary and Elizabeth is an unfolding drama of motherhood, taking into account both the differences and similarities these two women bring to their relationship. When noting the differences, we begin with their ages. Elizabeth is in her latter years, while Mary enters motherhood in her early years. For Elizabeth, the wait was long, while for Mary, motherhood came quickly.

Yet there are similarities between these women as well. Both were Jewish women, well-versed in God’s redemptive promises concerning the Messiah. Both experienced an abrupt disruption regarding God’s plan for their lives. Both demonstrated faith in God’s promised Messiah, Jesus Christ. This account describes the deep bonds of motherhood. Most importantly, this is a story about Jesus Christ.

As We Honor Our Mothers, Consider The Example Of...

  • The Christ-Centered Fellowship Being Experienced. (39-56)
  • The Christ-Centered Worship Being Expressed. (46-56)
