Psalm 85: Revive Us Again

During the 1740s, just prior to the American Revolutionary War, amajor movement of the Holy Spirit swept through the colonies.Known as the Great Awakening, God used such men as JonathanEdwards, George Whitefield, and the Wesleys to kindle the flamesof revival.

J. Edwin Orr, who produced significant works on the subject ofrevival, describes the term as ‘times of refreshing from the presenceof the Lord.’ Throughout the Bible, various accounts of revival aregiven in which, after times when God’s people could hardly bedistinguished from secular society, the Holy Spirit worked to restoreGod’s people to a renewed state of repentance, faith, and holiness.Psalm 85 offers great insight into this subject. As we examine thispassage, let’s pray that God will bring such revival to this nation forhis glory.
