Psalm 145: The Majesty of God
As we come to Psalm 145 in our series on the Psalms, three distinctive features grip our attention. First, this psalm is titled A Song of Praise of David. Though Psalms 17 and 86 were called A Prayer of David, the psalm we are exploring today is considered the high point of praise of David’s compositions. Second, it is the last psalm to use an acrostic pattern. Third, this is the last recognized psalm in the Psalter written by David.
The dominant theme of Psalm 145 is the majesty of God. For the first time since Book One, a psalm specifically written by David emphasizes the LORD as King (145:1). Notice the fourfold emphasis on our LORD’s kingship in today’s passage (145:11,12,13[2x]). It is no wonder that this psalm, A Song of Praise of David, leads naturally into the Praise the LORD collection of Psalms 146-150. Let’s ponder the majesty of our LORD, and give exclusive praise to our Sovereign Ruler.
