Psalm 102: Prayer and Pain
It was the Apostle John who once wrote Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul (3 John 3:2). There is a strong preoccupation with good health among many in our society. Due to rapid developments in technology, people today have access to medical information which was unavailable to prior generations.
The Christian needs to develop biblical perspectives concerning pain and suffering (are pain and suffering synonymous terms?), and offer such perspective in wise, loving ways to people wrestling with the question why me? Psalm 102 is described as a prayer of one afflicted when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the LORD (see the superscription to Psalm 102). Let’s examine this psalm together, seek to distinguish contrasting trajectories of thought, and use this psalm as a ministry to others in their times of need.
As We Consider Contrasting Views Of Pain And Suffering, Note…
– The Downward Trajectory Due To Temporal Thinking. (1-11)
– The Upward Trajectory Due To Eternal Thinking. (12-22)
