Luke 24:13-35: The Emmaus Encounter

Passage: Luke 24:13-35

On this Easter Sunday, we are pausing to examine one of the most vivid,
memorable resurrection appearances recorded in the gospels. We are
entitling this account The Emmaus Encounter, a story which is unique to Luke.
Here we find two followers of Jesus Christ involved in an intense discussion
regarding the empty tomb, and the meaning attached to this historical reality.
While making their way to Emmaus, Jesus appears, and joins in the
discussion.

Certain major themes appear in these verses. Consider the tension between
feelings of hopelessness and a sense of hopefulness. Note how Jesus uses
the Old Testament Scriptures as a means of pointing these disciples to him.
Ponder the question posed by Jesus: Was is not necessary that the Christ
should suffer these things and enter into his glory? (24:26). Heading home after a
traumatic weekend, these disciples find themselves encountering the Risen
Savior. Today, as you ponder your life journey, ask yourself how the
Resurrected Savior, Jesus Christ, has impacted your life.

As We Connect Christ’s Death And Resurrection, Note...
• The Confusion Our Lord Addresses. (13-24)

• The Understanding Our Lord Provides. (25-27)

• The Response Our Lord Desires. (28-35)
