Passage: Psalms 139:13-18

On this Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, we are pausing to consider life from a Scriptural perspective. Psalm 139:13-18 has sometimes been referred to as the theology of biology. The focal point of this passage is God. To prepare our minds for examining this passage, we are able to observe God’s sovereign nature in prior verses. Verses 1-6 provide an understanding of God’s omniscience (God is all-knowing). Verses 7-12 explore God’s omnipresence (God is all-present).

As we examine today’s passage, note God’s work within the mother’s womb. Reflect upon how God views the child in the embryonic stage. Consider the phrase your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them (16). On this significant Sunday, as we reflect upon our sovereign God, the creator of life, let’s join the psalmist in exclaiming How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! (17).

As We Consider What It Means To Be Fearfully And Wonderfully Made, Note…

  • The Source Of Human Life. (13)
  • The Structure Of Human Life. (14-16a)
  • The Sanctity Of Human Life. (16b-18)
