Salvation Belongs to Our God

Passage: Revelation 7:9-12

All of history is moving toward one end: the worship of God. But is this our highest priority? Is this the goal of our lives? In this message titled Salvation Belongs to Our God, the apostle John's vision of what worship will be like in heaven compels us to spend our lives for this one glorious purpose.

► 9  After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10  and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11  And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12  saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” (Revelation 7:9-12)

CROSS REFERENCES

►14  How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15  And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:14–15)

► 13  So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” (John 12:13)

► “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you… Worship God.” (Revelation 22:9)

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What were some of the highlights and lowlights of your week? Everyone needs to get a chance to answer!
  2. What’s the highest priority in your life right now? What you do you care about most, and how does that influence your daily habits, decisions, thoughts, and actions?
  3. In heaven, we will worship God alone. He will be our greatest treasure and highest priority. Why do you think we struggle so much to put God first in our lives today? What would happen if you did?
  4. When you consider God’s plan to save the nations, what are your initial thoughts and feelings? Are you overwhelmed? Are you inspired? Are you indifferent? Are you all of the above? Explain.
  5. What are some practical ways a student could join God in reaching the nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ?
  6. In John’s vision, the people in heaven are waving palm branches, teaching us that heaven will be a place of incredible joy and celebration. Try to imagine the happiest, safest, most beautiful moment of your life and multiply that feeling by infinity. That’s heaven. How badly do you want others to enjoy God in heaven alongside you? Enough to be embarrassed? Enough to take risks? Enough to share the gospel? Explain.
  7. Pray!
