A Royal Christmas, Pt. 4

December 21, 2014 | Dr. Gary Hylander
Passage: Psalms 110:1-7

As Our King-Priest, Consider . . .

  • The Messiah's Royal Position. (1-3)
    • Matthew 22:41-46

Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, saying, “What do you think about the Christ?  Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying, “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet” ’? If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son? ”And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.

  • The Messiah’s Perpetual Priesthood. (4)
    • Hebrews 5:5-6

So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”; as he says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.”

  • The Messiah’s Final Conquests. (5-7)
    • Psalm 72:9-11

May desert tribes bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust! May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands render him tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts! May all kings fall down before him, all nations serve him!
