Luke 19:28-44: Arrival in Jerusalem

March 24, 2024 | Pastor Jon MacDonald
Passage: Luke 19:28-44

Today we will examine the Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. This marks the clear and required sign that Jesus, the King of all kings, has arrived in Jerusalem, the “city of peace.”  500+ years prior, Zechariah told the whole world that the King’s coronation in Jerusalem would look like this (Zechariah 9:9):

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
    Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
    righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

As Jesus makes his way toward the cross…

  1. He is in control of every detail. (28-25)
  2. His true disciples receive him in the presence of open hostility. (36-40)
  3. He weeps for those who do not receive his peace. (41-44)
