Psalm 63: The Satisfied Soul

June 26, 2022 | Pastor Jon MacDonald
Passage: Psalms 63:1-11

David writes Psalm 63 “in the wilderness of Judea,” fleeing from Saul (1 Sam 23),
or possibly from his own son, Absalom (2 Sam 15). Either way, David’s life is in
danger, and God’s promise (that David would be king) is threatened even though
David has been doing all the right things.

It is from this place that David joyfully (7,11) writes about God’s power (2), love
(3) and help (7), even while his suffering and afflictions continue. How is it
possible to be fully satisfied with God while frustrations and disappointments
seem to rule our lives? How can we maintain this satisfaction while the world
around us tempts us to turn away from him all day long? In our psalm today,
David will show us how to develop and maintain a satisfied soul.

Steps to a completely content heart
(even while the wheels are off the cart)...

1. God is my God. (1)

2. Certainty about who God is and what I’ve seen him do. (2-4)

3. Clarity about my own deepest longings. (5-8)

4. Confidence in God's promises. (9-11)
